Repertory Company
What is a Repertory Company?

The Gainesville Theatre Alliance Repertory Company is a small touring group made up of five of our strongest actors, which offers two shows to area schools every other year.  Typically, one show is for elementary school audiences and the other is for older audiences and is based on classic literature that we hope students have studied and discussed ahead of time.  These shows will come to your school, community center, library or hospital FREE or for a small fee.

The plays can be performed for a variety of audience sizes (although your students will get MUCH more out of it if they can see the shows in groups under 100).  All schools that book performances will recieve a free STUDY GUIDE to help students get the most out of the live perforrrmance.  Past shows include TALESPINNERS, JUMPING MOUSE and DRAGON FLIGHTS.  For older students, we have offered classics like MEDEA and ELECTRA, or historical adventures like HEADING WEST.

The 2008-09 Touring Repertory Company

This year's Repertory Company has been rehearsing two shows since August that will certainly DELIGHT audiences:

For younger audiences:

Wiley and the Hairy Man, a bayou folk tale about how one little boy must confront his fear of "that Hairy Man in the swamp."  Adapted from the book by Suzan Zeder, Wiley finds he can't rely on the incantations of his mammy or on his old hound dog for protection; he has to outsmart the Hairy Man all on his own.

And for older audiences (13 and up):

The Miser, classic costume comedy by Moliere with a contemporary twist!  When an old widower decides to marry off his children against their will, he sets the entire family scheming to steal his fortune.  With forbidden romance in the air and the family treasure buried in the backyard, it's a race to see who will come out on top.  A hilarious tale of true love...between a man and his money, performed in the Commedia del Arte improvisational form, so each performance is as unique as the audience who sees it!
